Centenary College was founded in 1867 by the Newark Conference of the United Methodist Church. Centenary has evolved from a coeducational preparatory school to a girls' preparatory school (1910), to a Junior college for women (1940), to a four-year women's college (1976), to a coeducational baccalaureate-degree-granting institution (1988) and finally to a master-degree-granting institution (1995). In 1999, the Center for Adult and Professional Studies (CAPS) was founded. Centenary College is located in Hackettstown, New Jersey.

Centenary was founded in 1867 by the United Methodist Church and offers undergraduate and graduate studies. There are currently 1,507 traditional undergraduate and graduate students, 692 students enrolled in the college's Center for Adult and Professional Studies (CAPS), and 270 part-time undergraduate students. Centenary College also offers accelerated online programs at both the undergraduate and graduate level including an MBA in Management, Marketing, Human Resources, and Finance.
Centenary Community College is a fully accredited member of the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
Centenary is located in a suburban setting in Warren County, New Jersey, in the Kittatinny Mountains, about an hour's drive west from New York City and east of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.
The College developed a Master Development Plan for the Hackettstown campus to address the needs for students and provide a cultural resource for the surrounding northwest New Jersey region. The Master Development Plan also calls for additional classrooms, Lackland Student Center, a renovated and expanded Reeves Recreation Center, improved pathways, and more parking.
In May 2010, the college made national headlines when valedictorian Emily Hawley proposed to her longtime boyfriend Josh Walker during her valedictory address. The couple were featured on several news outlets, including the CBS Morning Show.
Students participate in 14 NCAA Division III intercollegiate sports. The school joined the Colonial States Athletic Conference for the 2007-08 season, after having been a member of the Skyline Conference. Students enrolled in the college's Equine programs may participate in competitions through intercollegiate organizations such as the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association or the Intercollegiate Dressage Association or with the Hunter/Jumper's Club.
Baseball, Men's Baskettball, Women's Basketball, Cross County, IHSA, IDA, Hunter/Jumper Golf , Men's Lacrosse, Women's Lacrosse, Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer, Softball, Vollyball, and Wrestling.
John Manos won the 2010 Purchase College Invitational for Centenary College. He has also been named the MVP for the 2008-2009, 2009-2010, and 2010-2011 seasons. Billy "Air" McNeir was named the Male Scholar Athlete of the Year for his outsanding athletic and academic achievements.
In 2009 Centenary's Intercollegiate Horse Show Association team won the National Championships in Murfreesboro, TN. Lindsay Clark, a Centenary Student, also won the USEF/Cacchione Cup.[2]

Centenary college consists of four campuses: the main campus at Hackettstown, satellite campuses in Parsippany, New Jersey and Metro Park located in Iselin and the Equestrian Center in Long Valley.
The Hackettstown campus is the main campus and location of most undergraduate classes, as well as housing for undergraduates. The campus consists of seventeen buildings, eight of which are dormitories.

The Equestrian Center is located in Long Valley, New Jersey. It consists of several large paddocks, an outdoor eventing course, two indoor arenas and one outdoor arena. The Equestrian Center sits on 65 acres (260,000 m2) of land.
In 2007 Centenary Equestrian Center hosted the American National Riding Commission Championships, Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Zone Finals, and the Intercollegiate Dressage Association Championships.[3]
Home to the CAPS or Center for Adult and Professional Students. Most of the CAPS classes as well as staff are located here. Classes generally take place in the evening. Parsippany boasts a small cafe, offices for staff, a student computer lab, a student workroom, and 13 classrooms
Located in Iselin. Metro Park is a satellite campus for the CAPS program with evening classes only. This campus consists of six classrooms, two offices, a small conference room, a small dinette, a server room, and a student work room.
WNTI 91.9 - College's Radio Station, located in the Seay Building.
Centenary College Television - College's own television station with original programming. Located in the basement of Van Winkle Hall.
The Quill - Centenary's student newspaper. Printed quarterly by the college for students, by students.
Environmental Group - The goal of this organization is to create a sense of responsibility to our resources and our community. Holds monthly meetings.
Film Club - Weekly Gatherings to watch, review, and discuss classic movies.
Greek Life - Centenary is home to Omega Rho Fraternity and Theta Epsilon Nu (Peithosphian Sorority).
Intramurals - Students have the opportunity to take place in many intramural type games during the school season.

Student Government - Centenary also boasts an active Student Government.
Student Writing - Students can contribute creative writing for the website Persona, which is updated year-round. A literary journal Prism is published annually and accepts submissions from college students throughout New Jersey.
